10 Web Development Blogs You Should Be Reading

When you need some design inspiration and want to stay updated with the advancements happening, it’s always good to read web development blogs. Here, in this article, we present you a list of 10 good web development blogs that you should read on a regular basis. These blogs evaluate software, applications, and Web-based tools that are targeted at web designers and developers, and publishes tutorials and how-tos on design and development.

The blogs below are not listed in anything resembling a ranking order.

1. Smashing Magazine

Smashing Magazine was founded in 2006 by Sven Lennartz and Vitaly Friedman. It is one of the largest online magazines for designers and web-developers. The site has a huge e-book library and a few years ago they also started publishing books in additional to digital. This blog focuses mainly on the following topics: Coding, Design, Mobile, Graphics, UX Design and WordPress.

2. Noupe

Noupe was founded in 2007 by Noura Yehia from Egypt; it was sold to Smashing Magazine in 2009. It is a good place for inspiration, roundups and occasional opinion articles about news in the industry from guest authors. Lots of different voices there make sure you get many opinions.

3. Web Designer Depot 

Founded by Vancouver, Canada-based web designer Walter Apai in 2010, WebdesignerDepot or WDD is the perfect showcase for Web-savvy designers. You’ll find in-depth articles on a variety of red hot topics such as jQuery, HTML 5, CSS3, responsive design, typography, usability, and more. Not to mention features looking at the business side of design, freelancing, mobile applications, inspiration, and resources, to name a few.

4. Onextrapixel

Onextrapixel was founded in 2009 by a team of Singapore web enthusiasts. The Singapore-based portal aims to collect, explore, as well as share useful tips, news, tutorials, tools and resources, on design, development and other inspirational topics.

5. Web Design Ledger

Web Design Ledger was founded in 2008 by Henry Jones. The Web Design Ledger is a publication written by web designers for web designers. Topics range from design inspiration to tips and tutorials and everything in between. Currently receiving over 2.1 million page views per month, it has grown into one of the largest design blogs on the internet.

6. Vandelay Design

Vandelay Design blog provides designers, photographers, UI developers, bloggers and business owners with the latest design news and trends while also supplying them with the creative bouts of inspiration that we all need for success.

7. Speckyboy

Speckyboy was launched in 2008 and offer insightful tutorials, time-saving techniques, fresh and useful resources and inspirational art, covering web design and development, graphic design, advertising and mobile development. Browse through archives. Over the years, Speckyboy has published more than 1,800 articles!

8. Creative Bloq

Creative Bloq delivers a daily balance of creative tips and inspiration across web design, graphic design, 3D and more.

9. Awwwards

Awwwards as the name suggests awards  for design, creativity and innovation on the Internet, recognizing and promoting the best web creators in the world. In addition to that they run a good web design inspiration blog and host design conference every year.

10. Designmodo

Designmodo was launched in 2011 and since then has been a great resource of informative material for designers and web developers. Content here is split up into several categories: the web and graphic design, inspiration, tutorials, coding, WordPress, social media, business and photography.

DesignModo is only 3 years old, but it is receiving more than one million page views.
